SMARTfit CMDT (Cognitive-Motor Dual Task Training) Designed to Improve Executive Function Abilities

“SMARTfit can improve executive functioning better than ohvsical exercise alone or cognitive alone through dual tasking. The research supports the idea that, and if we can improve executive functioning, generalizes to things that have never been trained including activites of dally living that can maximize independence and quality of life. This includes the ability to create a new memory, ability to pay attention, ability to inhibit behavior, problem solving and reasoning.” Dr Rob Winningham, Ph.D. Neuroscience, Published Author, Western Oregon University.

SMARTfit Uses the Science-Based Adaptive Capacity Model to Deliver Training

As hunter gatherers, humans had to use their brains and bodies together in order to survive and advance. Thus, humans evolved by developing the ability to cognitively problem solve, plan, and make decisions in order to finally act, using motor skills to achieve the goal. This interaction between brain and body produced the human evolution of today and is deeply embedded in our DNA.

Since the start of the industrial revolution and more recently computerization, we have shifted to largely inactive, desk-bound, and seated activity. As a result, humans are increasingly sedentary, resulting in a myriad of physical and cognitive conditions which drive up health costs, damage quality of life and limit our abilities in all walks of life.

Up until now, the fitness, wellness and performance industries have yet to fully embrace this cognitive-motor dual task (CMDT) function as a critical component of the solutions they provide. However, the physical therapy industry has been using this technique for the past thirty years, producin extensive evidence that training the brain and body together (dual tasking) provides faster results than training either one alone. Recent studies specific to SMARTfit have confirmed this.

What is SMARTfit Used For?

  1. Performance: Improve cognitive-motor, dual-task functional performance for all ages and abilities, including, but not limited to, athletes, military tactical personnel, older adults, K-12 physical education, early childhood education, mental health clients, and those with special needs including those on the autism spectrum.
  2. Repair: Orthopedic & Chronic/Acute Neuro-rehab, Concussion, Vestibular Health
  3. Mitigation: Falls in Older Adults, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and Dementia
  4. Delaying: Loss of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’S), onset of Parkinson’s symptoms, MCI, Dementia
